The Avant Garde Diaries. Helen Homan + Aki Onda.
HOMAN WU
A Different Sort of Value. Cassette Memories.
Walking along New York’s East River, Japanese artist Aki Onda records sounds that would otherwise slip away into the background. For over the past 20 years, Onda has perfected his cassette recording techniques with little more than a Walkman by his side and an intuitive sense of composition. Having seen Onda perform at a recent music festival, he was adopted by Helen Homan Wu’s Opalnest, a New York multi-media production agency. Since 2007, Opalnest has fostered artists who have made careers out of avant-garde pursuits in the audio-visual field.
